On Thursday night, King Kendrick surprised us with a new single, naming himself “a hip-hop rhyme saviour” and proving himself a hip-hip conquerer all at the same time.
In his new “The Heart Part 4,” fans are speculating Kendrick may have slammed Toronto’s poster boy, Drake. The two kings of hip-hop have a long standing beef, so we wouldn’t be surprised. It started back in 2013, when Kendrick famously called out hip-hop’s biggest names on Big Sean’s “Control”—including Drake—in what’s considered one of the greatest diss verses of our generation. He rapped, “I got love for you all, but I’m tryna murder you ni**as.”
In his new song, Kendrick raps, “My fans can’t wait for me to son your punk ass and crush your whole lil shit/I’ll Big Pun your punk ass you a scared lil bitch/Tip-toeing around my name ni**a you lame.”
Whether or not Drake was the target of the rhyme, Twitter is taking the timing of the Kendrick’s song release as a clear hit at Drake.

Kendrick and Drake are very different artists, despite always being pitted against each other for the throne. As one Twitter user points out, “They just both rap. It’s like comparing Ed Sheeran and Chris Brown cause they both sing.” While Drake often steers clear of political and racial issues in his music (Kendrick once called him “a sensitive rapper” dressed “in his pyjama clothes”), Kendrick isn’t afraid to go for the jugular.
In “The Heart Part 4” he goes after President Donald Trump and America’s crumbling democracy, rapping “Trump is a chump, know how we feel, punk/Tell ’em that God comin’/And Russia need a replay button, y’all up to somethin’/Electorial votes look like memorial votes/But America’s truth ain’t ignorin’ the votes.”
Oh, there also seems to be an album release date teased in these bars: “Y’all got till April the 7th to get your shit together.”
While we wait for Kendrick’s new album, we’ll be over here listening to More Life like:
