Hand sketched whale prints, nautical stripes and deep, dark blue hues. We can practically hear the waves crashing and our boat gently rocking, as if we’re on a whale watching tour. But this limited edition J.Crew for ROM collection (led by head women’s wear designer Somsack Sikhounmuong) is part of the brand’s Garments for Good campaign to accompany the ROM’s latest exhibit, Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story. The exhibit draws attention to the nine blue whales that died off the coast of Newfoundland in 2014, and houses the massive skeletal remains of one that washed up on shore. The limited edition collection will be sold at the ROM, jcrew.com and J.Crew stores across Canada, with 50% of the retail price being donated to the ROM’s Blue Whale Project to help learn about and protect the species.
The family friendly looks feature whimsical prints in blue and white. Mix these pieces into your everyday wardrobe and know that you’re celebrating and supporting these magnificent creatures.
See the collection below and watch our interview with designer, Somsack Sikhounmuong for more.
