Yes, We Put the U.S. Figure Skating Team in Runway Looks

Everyday

Cancel all your regularly scheduled TV watching: The Olympics officially kick off in Pyeongchang, South Korea, today. And while the worldwide event is certainly more about athleticism and teamwork, those looking for a fashion spectacular won’t likely be disappointed either. Every winter Olympics we eagerly wait for the glamour, the sparkle, and the many, many bedazzled leotards from the figure skating competition. So while we wait, we reimagined the action on the ice with the help of an expert.

Benjamin Seidler is a designer, illustrator, and the man behind the fantasy fashion Instagram account we love to follow. He’s also the visionary behind the high-fashion-meets-aspiring-gold-medalists looks below. Seidler has envisioned what the soloists on the U.S. Figure Skating Team might wear if they were choosing from the runways alone. The results? Ensembles that are bold, luxe, completely performance-worthy, and just what we need to keep us in suspense before the official competition begins.

Scroll down for Seidler's creations and how he chose them for each Olympian.

"Karen is the youngest of the female competitors so I thought she could be bold in a black and white Valentino gown livened up by a street-savvy Balenciaga cap."
"Bradie is feminine and powerful, and she'll command the room in this enormous pink gown by Giambattista Valli. She also seems to like sparkle and jewelry, so a single statement Gucci earring is the cherry on top."
"Short seems the right way to go for Mirai who needs freedom to do her amazing acrobatic moves. This Chanel couture packs a punch in a small confection. A floral Chanel hat and owl-embellished Chanel purse complete the look to show off Mirai's fun side."
"I thought the fringe on this Sacai piece would look amazing when Nathan does his jumps and twirls."
"Adam isn't afraid to dazzle, so head to toe Versace is the way to go (minus the skates, though I'm sure Donatella could bedazzle a pair for him)."
"He's only 17, so Vincent can pull of a more daring look. Prada's flame print is sure to heat things up on the ice rink."
