Kate Middleton's New Baby's Name Has a Special Royal Meaning

Fashion News

Update, April 27: Kensington Palace has finally confirmed the name of Prince William and Kate Middleton's third child. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles," the palace stated on Instagram. "The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge."

Per The New York Times, Prince Louis was named after one royal family member in particular: Prince Charles's uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten. "Louis is Prince William’s fourth name and was apparently chosen by his father, Prince Charles, as a tribute to Lord Louis Mountbatten, a mentor of Prince Charles’s, a prominent British naval officer and the Duke of Edinburgh’s uncle," the NYT explains. Congratulations again to the adorable new family of five.

Originally published on April 26: It was the birth announcement heard 'round the world: As you already know, Kate Middleton and Prince William's third child was born on Monday, April 23. Three days later, the palace still has not released the name of the new baby boy, but fans are predicting that it will be Prince Albert.

Although several different name predictions have made the rounds, Albert has been circulating the most—and there may be good reason. As People reports, the British royal family's official website may have confirmed the suspicion. This morning, the URL of royal.uk/prince-albert yielded an "Access Denied" page—which was the same notification if you swapped in Prince George or Princess Charlotte's names—while other monikers such as royal.uk/prince-arthur yielded a "Page Not Found" message. Clearly, fans are highly anticipating the official name reveal, so we'll have to wait until then to see if their predictions are accurate.
