If I'm being honest, one of the reasons I most look forward to fashion month each season is to witness all the great street style moments. Yes, I also eagerly await the runway shows to see everything new designers are dreaming up—and I take it all in, whether I'm sitting at a show, tuning in on Instagram, or flipping through slide after slide on
. But there's something about seeing outfits styled outside of the runway shows that makes them feel primed for my personal wardrobe. Vogue.com
In these street style moments, fashion girls are snapped wearing the season's biggest runway trends but reinterpreted and mixed in as part of their everyday wardrobes. This also gives me inspiration for how to wear them myself in my everyday life, as opposed to the way they were worn on some runway in Paris or in the pages of a magazine.
This year, though, I'm not waiting around for fashion month to begin to look for inspiration. Instead, I asked nine women working in fashion to share the fall trends they're most excited about and how they're wearing them now. Ahead learn their tips and shopping picks to get a leg up on the best of fall fashion to wear now.
have been trending for a minute, and they're going strong for fall too. Since they're so easy to wear, there aren't really any tricks to keep in mind for styling them. Just wear them with abandon knowing you'll be comfortable and on trend." "My rule for wearing leopard is more is more. Have fun with it. If I'm feeling bold, I'll wear my leopard shoes and bag too. And of course, I have a leopard coat for the winter. I won't deny that I'm full-on Fran Drescher in The Nanny. Otherwise, to maintain a little balance, I wear my go-to accessories: gold hoop earrings, cat-eye sunglasses, lady bag, and minimal sandals." Available in Danish sizes 34 to 42. Available in sizes 25 to 30. "I've been noticing quite a bit of colored denim creeping onto the scene for a while now, from Ganni's rainbow collaboration with Net-a-Porter to a mocha latte–colored pair in Maryam Nassir Zadeh's Fall 2018 collection that I haven't stopped thinking about. As a tried-and-true maximalist, my gut instinct is to dive wardrobe-first into any trend wherein more color is at stake; needless to say, there's no way I'm waiting until fall to try this one. I've already started dabbling this summer by way of a pair of lavender jeans from Ganni. Since colored jeans are a twist on a classic, I lean into that aesthetic when styling them—for example, pairing them with this marigold-striped button-down from Kule and green jelly hoops from Alison Lou." Available in sizes XS to L. Available in French sizes 34 to 44. "'80s power suits have become the cornerstone of my wardrobe, but I never thought I'd venture out into lilac nor jewel encrusted buttons—let alone like the way it looks on me. It's a maximal approach to the trend, so keeping the accompanying accessories simple is a must." Available in Australian sizes 4 to 14. "Leather on leather is such a trend this winter, and this Nanushka number is the perfect hassle-free statement piece. I love it with a pair of bare sandals from The Row or worn with a pair of ankle boots and layered under a robe coat when it's a little cooler during the fall months." Available in sizes XS to L. "As someone who has always limited the contents of my handbag to the essentials (debit card, keys, gum), I am getting a head start on fall's micro-mini handbag trend. I look forward to wearing them on the daily (the logomania styles are my favorite!) with denim and statement shoes. When it comes to handbags, the smaller, the better." Dior Mini Saddle Bag . Available at Dior stores. Available in sizes 0 to 8. "My favorite fall trend is corporate suiting. I have really been enjoying channeling the '90s working woman trend by pairing checked blazers with jeans and dad sneakers." Available in sizes XS to XXL. Available in size 23. Available in sizes XS to L. Available in sizes 6 to 10. "Being from Arizona, I just loved seeing all the Western influences on the fall runways! There are so many ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe, and one thing I'm loving is the cowboy shirt. In order not to look like I'm heading to the rodeo, I like to pair it with a wide-leg jean, gold hoops, and mules. Or to dress it up a little more, I go for a midi skirt with a wide belt at the waist." Available in sizes 0 to 12. "The one trend I'm super excited about is baggy pants. I'm not talking about wide-leg pants, but instead, a silhouette that's straight and oversize throughout, as seen at brands like Lorod, Slvrlake, and Khaite. This vintage pair from Levi's is super comfortable—as in, I could travel for half a day in them and not register a single complaint. I like to pair them with a pair of boots and a tee for a more polished look now, but I'm planning to swap the tee for an oversize blazer later in the season. If I'm going full-on schlub, I'll swap out the boots for a pair of sneakers instead." Available in sizes 2 to 6.
